Claim this listingCanto Bogchi Joint is one of Baguio's best-loved homegrown restaurants, founded on June 8, 2008 by owner Carlo Blanco in a tiny 172-square-foot space at Engineer's Hill with three tables and nine seats, serving American comfort food. It moved to the Ketchup Food Community near Wright Park in 2011, and when that food park closed in 2017, Canto found its standalone home on Kisad Road across Burnham Park — a bright, white-walled space with big glass windows, high ceilings, an open kitchen, mid-century retro furniture evoking old Baguio, and indoor and open-air seating that lets the Baguio breeze through. Its tagline, FOOD x MUSIC x ART, reflects a space that doubles as a hub for the city's creative scene. The undisputed star is the Lomo Ribs — oven-baked, grilled BBQ pork ribs in an addictive house-blend sweet-tangy sauce, served with the Cascade Salad (Baguio greens, watermelon, parmesan, peanut-brittle bits, lemon-mustard vinaigrette) and mashed potatoes or organic brown rice — nearly every table orders it. The menu has grown rich around it: beef ribs kare-kare and BBQ beef ribs, whole fried chicken, chicken pastel, callos, a full Canto Brunch line (eggs Benedict on potato rösti, steak and eggs, chicken and waffles, crêpe Suzette), pan-seared salmon, plate-sized pizzas on homemade dough, burgers and a roast-beef ciabatta, blue-marlin ceviche with watermelon salsa, and hummus — plus a playful Kalye Treats street-food line of chilled taho, bingsu, and chicken poppers. Local GYAB craft beer, tablea hot cocoa, mountain tea, and Nina's Bakery-style desserts (panna cotta, s'mores brownies à la mode, turon with ube ice cream, Carmen's Best) round it out. Servings are big, prices fair, queues common on weekends — time your visit. A sister spot, Loop by Canto, operates at 28 Maria Basa St. Parking available.
