Mt. Ulap Eco-Trail is a roughly 9-km point-to-point ridge trail in the Ampucao-Santa Fe mountain range of Itogon, Benguet, popular for its grassland ridges, pine forests, sea-of-clouds views, and the iconic Gungal Rock photo spot (summit ~1,846 MASL). Hikers register at the Ampucao Barangay Hall/Elementary School gymnasium, where a local guide is mandatory; it is done as a half-day day hike or an overnight camp at the grassland campsite. Facilities are basic (pit toilets, a small store), in keeping with a community-managed eco-tourism trail.

Best time to visit
Start before sunrise — registration opens at 4 AM on weekends and 5 AM on weekdays, and the famous sea of clouds shows best in the early morning. The dry months from November to April are the most popular hiking season. Weekdays mean thinner crowds along the ridges.
What to bring
Sturdy hiking shoes, layers and a jacket for the cold pre dawn start, and sun protection for the exposed grassland ridges. Bring plenty of water and trail snacks — there is only a small store on the trail. Cash is a must for registration, guide and porter fees. A headlamp helps for the early start, and pack out all your trash.

Getting there
From Baguio City, ride a jeepney marked Ampucao from the terminal beside Center Mall — about 40 minutes to the jump off in Barangay Ampucao. Register first at the Ampucao Barangay Hall, where hiring a local guide is mandatory. Taxis and private vehicles can also reach Ampucao. The traverse exits at Barangay Santa Fe, so plan your ride back from there.
