The Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto — simply the Lourdes Grotto — is a Roman Catholic shrine on Mirador Hill in the western part of Baguio, an integral adjunct of the Mirador Jesuit Villa. It was constructed in 1913, mainly out of limestone, and holds the Our Lady of Lourdes statue created by the famous sculptor Isabelo Tampingco from polychromed molave; the stairway of around 252 steps took five years to complete (the structure was later damaged in the 1990 earthquake). Climbing the 252 steps is treated as an act of devotion, especially by pilgrims during Lent and Holy Week — on Good Friday the grotto can draw around 10,000 visitors. Along the way are the 14 Stations of the Cross and vendors selling colorful rosaries and candles; at the top it is traditional to light a candle, and the ridge rewards you with views over Baguio (and parts of La Union on clear days). A replica stands in the open grotto while the original statue is preserved in the nearby Capilla nina Jesus at Maria chapel.

Typical Visit
45 minutes
Usually busy at these times — based on typical patterns, not live crowd data.
Early morning for a peaceful, less crowded atmosphere; the dry season for the clearest views. Very crowded on Sundays and during Lent and Holy Week.
Water, comfortable shoes, and a jacket; pace yourself on the climb (or drive up if mobility is limited).
On Dominican Hill Road, Mirador Hill (western Baguio) — from Zandueta St in the central district, take a jeepney bound for Lourdes or Dominican Hills, or a taxi. You can drive up a winding paved road to a parking area near the top.
A place of worship — be respectful, especially during Mass and Holy Week. Free entry, with a parking fee. The 252-step climb can be tiring; rest areas are provided, and vehicle access shortens it.
